Salsoul artist and disco-funk/saxophone legend Jimmy Castor has passed away at the age of 64 in Las Vegas. His classic horn lines have been sampled by such hip-hop moguls as Kanye West, N.W.A., and Eric B. and Rakim. The causes of his death are unkown.
Born in New York City in 1947, Castor is best known for leading the disco-era group the Jimmy Castor Bunch. After the success of that group, Castor went solo for a few years and recorded two singles with Salsoul Records: 1982's "Anyway, Anywhere, Anytime" and 1983's "It's Just Begun."
Castor was more than just a singer and horn player. He was also a respected producer, songwriter, and arranger, and he penned his first million selling single, "I Promise to Remember" before leaving high school.
